20 BRAND TIPS FOR 2020

Right then, it’s a new year, a new decade AND a leap year, which means even more chances to make this year, YOUR year. So, first things first, happy 2020. I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year, with lots of self-care and relaxing to refresh and recharge those batteries ahead of a massive year. I’ve got some epic things coming up, starting with my free, four day Be Your Brand challenge, which I announced last week and I can’t wait to see what this year brings. But, I wanted to kick things off with a blog, slash, checklist, slash blueprint for how you can nail your brand. It’s exactly what it says on the tin, which is why I’ve called it my 20 Brand tips for 2020.

 

As I’m sure a lot of you reading this know, I’m all about getting incredible female entrepreneurs – that’s YOU by the way – thinking differently about their brands. Because when you build something more than just a fancy logo, or a pretty website, when you really put the YOU into YOUR brand, then great things can happen. Everything from building those connections, to converting clients and having the confidence to show up as the real you will become easier. It’s a complete game changer, trust me.

 

So let’s get stuck into these tips…drum roll please…

 

#1 BE YOUR BRAND

The name of my new challenge, and the biggest tip I give to all of my clients. You brand has to represent you. And work for you. NOT the other way round. So build something that looks, feels and sounds like you.

 

#2 NAIL YOUR MESSAGE

There’s probably a lot of people who do what you do. You won’t be the first, or the last. But if you nail your message you will stand out. You’ll become known as THE go-to expert, and get people coming to you.

 

#3 KNOW YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

Understand your audience. Because you’ll never know what to say or do, until you know who you’re talking to. It’s as simple as that. They’re the ones you want to connect with, and the people buying from you, so make sure you know them inside and out.

 

#4 WHO ARE YOU?

People buy from people. So the more you there is in your brand, the better. That means understanding who you are as a woman, not just who you are as an entrepreneur. The right brand will showcase the real, authentic you.

 

#5 WHAT ARE YOUR MINI MESSAGES?

Yes, you need a main message. But you can be more than that. It could be things you’re passionate about, lessons you’ve learned that your ideal client will benefit from or causes that you support, but these smaller messages are what solidifies those connections.

 

#6 WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?

Brand values are huge. These are the things that underpin everything you do. The things that guide how you act, how you treat clients and how you show up. They also enhance those connections with your client.

 

#7 SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY

We’re a long way from corporate land now. It doesn’t all have to be prim and proper, 9-5 vibes. It has to be YOU. It has to have your personality at the heart of everything. So don’t be afraid to mess up, or laugh, or joke, or even swear (shock) if it’s right for you, it’s right.

 

#8 EMBRACE YOUR FACE

I love this saying. And it’s something that I really struggled with in the beginning. But we can’t hide away. We have to be the face of our brand. We have to show up through things like lives, stories and strong brand photography.

 

 

#9 NAIL THAT BRAND PHOTOGRAPHY

This is something you just have to do. No excuses. If you want to get known, get out there and stop hiding, then a suite of brand photography that represents you and your brand is critical. Just make sure you find the right photographer and the right locations.

 

#10 NO ONE LIKES A COPYCAT

Simple. No arguments, right? Copying is lazy, it’s definitely not unique, and it’s nothing different to what your ideal client can get elsewhere. So why would they come to you, over the original source of the opinion or the product?

 

#11 PUT YOUR OWN TWIST ON EVERYTHING

Like I said, you’re probably not the first, and I can almost guarantee you won’t be the last, so you need to put your own twist on everything. You need to use your story to make what you say unique, and use your experiences to make real, lasting connections with your audience.

 

 

#12 MAKE IT LOOK AND FEEL LIKE YOU

It has to appeal to them, but it has to look and feel like you. Why? Because they are buying you. Your talent, your expertise, your knowledge and your passion. And if you nail this, by the time they meet you, or speak to you, they’ll feel like they already know you.

 

#13 MAKE IT SOUND LIKE YOU

Not only does your brand need to look and feel like you – the wonder woman behind it. If it all needs to be consistent, which it does, then it also needs to sound like you too. There’s no point creating something that doesn’t match how you speak when you go live, or when you write an email, a blog or a proposal. Your audience need to feel like they’re dealing with the real you at every stage of the journey.

 

#14 DON’T FORGET YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

Always remember your audience. Of course you need to love it. You have to want to shout about it. But, it has to grab their attention, speak to them, relate to them, make them fall in love with it. Never forget that.

 

 

#15 MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR WEBSITE

3 seconds. That’s all the time you have to convince someone to stay on your website from the moment they land on it. Not long, right? So you need to nail everything they see before the fold – before they scroll. Who are you, what do you do, how can you help in a nutshell.

 

#16 ALWAYS CONSIDER THE JOURNEY

You have to take your audience on a journey when it comes to your brand. And especially your website. Make CTAs your friend and guide them through what you do, how you can help, why you’re the right fit for them, your story and the specifics of what you offer.

 

#17 CONSISTENCY IS KEY

I always find consistency strange. It sounds so boring. And as an entrepreneur our days and lives are ANYTHING but consistent, am I right? But when it comes to your brand, it’s vital. The way your audience show up and how they engage across every single touchpoint has to be consistent, otherwise, you lose ‘em.

 

#18 VALUE, VALUE, VALUE

I’m not just talking about cost. I’m talking about what you add for your ideal clients. How are you making their lives better? How are you helping them to improve their business? What pain points are you solving in your own unique way?

 

#19 BE THE EXPERT

This is something that a lot of people struggle to do. They simply don’t consider themselves experts. But you know what? You are. Absolutely. 1,000,000%. Not everyone knows what you do. So don’t be afraid to share your opinion, or your knowledge. Ever.

 

#20 BELIEVE IN YOUR INNER WONDER WOMAN

Believe is my word for 2020. So I had to include it here didn’t I. And it’s also crucial to nailing your brand. Because if you don’t believe in you, why the hell should anyone else? So believe in your expertise, your talent, your instincts, your passion and in YOU and you can make 2020 your year.
